New Photo Wall

I have this wall in my house that I never know what to do with and when I finally do something, I am never really satisfied.  This was the last arrangement until recently.  I felt like the saying, although beautiful, has been used so much lately that I needed a change.  I also felt like the picture arrangement wasn't large enough and was kind of lost on the wall.

So it all came down....again.  My husband usually just shakes his head when he sees me changing "the wall" again.  That's what we refer to it now as "the wall".  It has probably been changed 15 times since we moved into this house 6 years ago.

Can you see the repair marks?  That gives you a little hint about how often things are changed.

I wanted something dark, but since I just went dark gray in the office I switched it up and went with a dark brown.

This is right after the wall was painted.  I decided to add a trellis stencil in the same color but in high gloss so it was very subtle.  Good thing it is subtle because I messed up quite a bit applying the stencil.

Here she is all finished....I finally love "the wall".

I purchased 9 of the Ribba frames from IKEA and did a timeline of my daughters life so far.  I love it that I can remember all of the moments as I walk past it.  The good thing is that it will be easy to change out the pictures the older she gets.

I love walking in through the garage to this beautiful wall.

Lucky for the husband I think it will stay like this....for a little while anyway...

What do you think?

Oh I love how it turned out!!
So here's a question, I know how the frames work (you have to add the hanging hardware yourself) so how did you get it all perfectly aligned on the wall?! Is there a certain technique you used? It looks amazing!

Thanks for all the love! Great question Kim! We used the 3M picture hanging strips. It is sort of like double sided tape. I stuck one on each bottom corner, sat the level on the top of the frame, made sure it was level and then pushed the picture frame into the wall. It will stay put after that! It is so great, because my 2 year old had her hands all over them so all I need to worry about is cleaning off all of the little hand prints instead of making sure they are level.

What color brown is that? It's lovely!

i LOVE this! what size frames are these from IKEA? and what size photos are these? I've had a terrible run with IKEA frames because they would only hold VERY odd shaped photos with the size of the mat that was included.

I would love your insight on these. Thanks so much!

Hi I love your wall and want to go ahead and do it this weekend. However I was wondering where you got the white frames and what size are they and what size did you print the photos?

Thank you so much!

Just wondering what size frames these are and also the pictures? I bought IKEA frames that are 12 x12 and can't seem to find a place to get pictures that size. Any information on how you did this would be great.

Thanks

Can you give any tips on painting accent walls with rounded corners?

Margaret Murray said...

what color brown is this?!

LD said...

The frames appear to be 20x20. Prints are likely 11x13.

The color samples in the photo are Valspar Frontier Road and Behr Fedora, but it isn't clear which one she used.

Shellie and Ashlie said...

The frames are from IKEA and are 21x21", the pictures are 12x12" and you can get them printed easily from Costco. The paint color is Fedora by Behr. The stencil accent is also Fedora by Behr in gloss.

I have a question about the color on your other walls. The goldish color. I LOVE it. What is the name of that color? Thanks in advance.

Shellie and Ashlie said...

Hi Tracey ~ It's called Krisp Khaki by Kwal. We really liked it for over 6 years until we just moved. Good luck!

I think this is such a great idea what you did with the wall! It does not only create an accent wall but it certainly makes your head turn. The contrasting colors of the wall and the frames are also gorgeous! It is like dark and white chocolate together! Thank you for sharing this post. It certainly bring more ideas to home builders Missouri, owners and interior designers out there!

POP of color! I know it's a dark color, but it still POPS! Dig your use of the square frames... I should do that :)

Hi there. I LOVE the wall and happen to have a blank wall painted the exact same color. I will certainly be recreating your masterpiece so that you for the inspiration. Question for you: What did you use as a matte for the pictures within the record frames?

Best,
